First Steps

Self-kindness Foundations

A gentle weekly guide to exploring self-kindness, from the inside out.

A steady, supportive way to begin

The First Steps Plan is for anyone who wants to explore self-kindness in a way that feels gentle, sustainable, and grounded in everyday life. Following the Calm Morning, Self-Kindness Foundations offers a weekly rhythm of guided skills and reflections, inviting you to develop a more caring relationship with yourself at a pace that feels right for you. Whether you're just starting out or returning to the practice after a challenging time, this offer is designed to meet you where you are.

“The kea’s story is one of resilience: once endangered, now gradually returning, stronger, and still curious. First Steps invites you to explore your own quiet comeback, one small, self-kindness step at a time.”

Who is First Steps For?

Self-Kindness Foundations is for you if:

  • You often show compassion to others but find it harder to offer the same to yourself

  • You notice patterns of self-criticism or perfectionism

  • You’re ready to try a kinder, less pressured way to support your wellbeing

  • You want small, manageable practices that don’t overwhelm or require big life changes

  • You’re curious about mindfulness but want something gentle and emotionally supportive

  • You’d like to understand the foundations before beginning the full self-kindness programme

How it Works

Each week, you'll receive an email introducing a single self-kindness skill.

  1. You'll be invited to explore self-kindness through a reflection or journaling prompt, in your own time.

  2. You can revisit each skill as often as you'd like — there’s no deadline, and no pressure.

  3. You’re welcome to email us with questions about how to use the material or integrate it into your practice.

Why Self-kindness Matters?

  • Many of us are taught to be kind to others, but rarely do we learn how to be kind to ourselves.

  • Practicing self-kindness isn’t about ignoring challenges, or pretending things are fine. It’s about turning toward your experience with care, especially when it’s hard.

  • Self-kindness is a quiet unfolding, and it starts with one small step at a time.
